May 15th is almost upon us, and for those in the know, it’s when the gates of hell will finally open. We’re sure many gamers have already made preparations for that momentous day, whether by taking leave off work for a week or stocking their room with instant noodles and a hot water flask.

Gaming non-stop isn’t exactly healthy though, so here we are to save you from any Diablo III induced health problems or injuries with this handy list of tips.

Move often

Do you know what one of the most common forms of death while aboard an aeroplane is? Deep Vein Thrombosis, otherwise known as DVT, occurs when victims are stationery for so long, a blood clot forms in the deep veins of their legs or groins and travels upward to cause a heart attack. Playing Diablo III for long hours is going to be akin to sitting in an aeroplane for a long haul flight, so the risk of DVT is very real. Move often, stretch lots, and keep yourself healthy!

Drink lots of water

Given the freak weather we’ve been having, there’s no doubt many of us will be gaming in the comfort of an air conditioned room. But did you know air-conditioning is very dehydrating? Keep yourself well hydrated or risk painful headaches, dry skin and mouth and even chills and fatigue. Always keep a bottle of water next to you during each session; walking to the toilet will also help you keep moving and avoid DVT (see tip above)

Eat full and balanced meals

We don’t mean more than one cup of instant noodles. Rather, take time off to have a full, proper meal. Not only will this keep you going in between your main meals, it also reduces your urge to snack on unhealthy junk food. The balanced meal will also give you energy for long hours of gaming!

Bathe regularly

It’s nice to play in air conditioning, because you feel clean for much longer when you don’t sweat. But take care to take regular showers, as the grime and dirt collected on your skin can cause pimples, rashes and even sores. Also remember to change your clothes often – your family will thank you!

Clean your gaming area

Do you know what else dirt, dust and food crumbs attract? Insects! Roaches and ants will flock to your dirty workspace if you don’t make the effort to clean it. It’s especially difficult to get rid of an ant infestation, and you don’t want those little blighters biting your elbows when you fight Diablo itself. The dust that accumulates can also trigger sinus attacks, so keep your gaming area free of debris and vacuum often.
